I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Sep 2023
Interview
The first step was a phone screen with a recruiter. About a week after the phone screen I was invited to a phone interview with a hiring manager. Prior to the interview you are required to provide a 1-2 page writing sample and to complete legal questionnaire which together takes 3-4 hours to complete. You are also asked to complete a worksheet that requires you to list 10-15 significant employment experiences and to attribute those experiences to Amazon's leadership principles while using the STAR format. During the phone interview you will be asked questions about your experience and asked to respond to hypothetical issues that may not fall into the job description (those asked of me did not).
The interview process for lawyers is lengthy and not easy. It sometimes takes multiple rounds because there may be more than one opening that a team is looking to fit you for (though I think this is less common than when I was first hired). You should expect a screener from a recruiter, an initial interview (with someone who may or may not be the hiring manager), and then a full loop.

Question 1
Lots of focus on my particular experience and my ability to work through problems in real time.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Washington, DC) in Nov 2021
Interview
I received a call from the recruiter, who gauged my initial interest. I then had a call with the hiring manager, who asked me standard questions regarding my work experience and other experiences I had during my career. It was a pretty straightforward interview that followed the process that is available on many sites online.
