Pros

Job security, good profit sharing benefits, most managers are very good about giving you any time off requests, the work is fairly easy

Cons

Pay isn't that great unless you can make it to management, it doesn't seem that they want to promote competent and hard workers into management but have no problem giving the job to new hires even if they have no previous retail experience, although the work is easy you always end up being expected to do much more than they pay you for, you are criticized if you work "too slowly", no matter how hard you work or how well you do it, it seems that some managers like speed more than they like a job well done

Pros

The pay and benefits are the best in the drugstore industry. Opportunities for Management Trainees to move up to EXA are very plentiful. Once you become store manager you get a 8-5 m-f schedule and most weekends and holidays off. Work hours for salaried employees maybe long and stressful but bonus potential makes it all worth it. There is usually plenty of coverage for all store departments but the downside is many of the employees are not very reliable or capable of doing simple tasks. Many holidays are payed in addition to your regular salary even if you are a EXA.

Cons

Promotion to store manager from EXA requires a lot of patience and politics. Due to the lawsuit filed by minorities against Walgreens for discrimination against store managers and pharamcists, promotion is very hard to come by for certain races... Work hours are long and stressful and a lot of times you fill like the Store Manager and District Manager think you are a dog and that you can be enticed(motivated) by the possibility of a promotion. They have you thinking that promotion is right around the corner to keep you working like "super walgreens employee". It's the Walgreen Way.

Pros

Overall, I think that Walgreens was one of the best after school jobs that I had. At the time, I wanted alot of hours, and they provided. My manager was very involved in what was going on outside the store as well. He made sure to see my report card and would not give me the hours unless my grades were up. If I had stayed with the company I would have eventually become a Pharmacy Tech.

Cons

Some of the Assistant Managers, but that would obviously vary in different stores.
