Pros

The opportunity to build good relationships with individuals. To interact with people who are ill and are there as patients in the healthcare system. Career opps are there because it's such a huge company. It gave me an opportunity to get into management that I otherwise wouldn't have had. The compensation is higher than many other companies with similar positions. As far as recognition and feedback goes if you have observant intelligent leaders your work will be appreciated and recognized. I personally have been very satisfied with the District management. The current DM in my district has raised the minimum level of what I expect of myself. I'll always appreciate that.

Cons

The company is so large and so many positions need to be filled that there are too many unqualified people in leadership postions (as well as non leadership positions). Because of this I feel some of them do not know how to communicate properly or lead. Instead some of them merely tell people what to do. Leadership is much more than just telling people what to do (A common saying in these situations is: we have a business to run.) Of course you do. People work there and paople shop there. In this worst case scenario the imbalance is there. Where these leaders exist morale also suffers. As well as some employees feeling an imbalance to work-life. Of course some of these issues are true in any company.

Pros

It's a big company and someone looking for a job in retail would do well here. This is probably one of the best retailers to get a management position in and it's relatively easy to get a job as an assistant manager if you have a college degree.

Cons

It's really not for everyone and I have decided it's not for me. I am mostly using my job as an MGT to pay for my school so that I can leave retail and get a job doing something that is M-F 8-5. You work for your job. Be prepared to be exhausted at times and having to work holidays.

Pros

Walgreens pays its pharmacists well and the resources offered to pharmacists for patient care, in terms of technology, are excellent.

Cons

Poor communication from upper level management is the rule. Expectations for how much work each person in the pharmacy (tech, pharmacist, or pharmacy manager) can get done in a given amount of time are entirely unrealistic. To accomplish all tasks expected of you as a Pharmacy Manager, you will put in an extra 8-10 hours a week beyond the 42 hours per week that your salary is based on. The problem? Staff pharmacists and hourly pharmacists make just as much as you, so they come out far ahead in terms of dollars per hour, bonus included.
