Pros

good products. good perks. good company to start your career

Cons

Poor management. they made 200 people redundant in Cork and London to make a strategic move to Barcelona, salaries are obviously lower there. most of the people were not able to move and others were not considered for jobs in Spain, just few of us did. I lost trust in Vmware, it hasn't been a great place to work the last 6 months. People do not feel valued, communication is unclear and atmosphere is weird since.

Pros

Free alcohol on the rooftop bar from 2 pm until 9 pm every day to help take the pain away.

Cons

Poor management who are young and have huge egos. Business Development and EUC are the worst areas to work in. You have no guidance and the office is so new to Barcelona nobody has a clue what they are doing. It is complete chaos. The products are niche and hard to sell and very very expensive so don't expect to start here on a great salary and have an easy ride because they make you work for your money, and if you don't hit targets they sack you. Don't be fooled by the 4+ start reviews on Glassdoor, if you read these reviews are all based from employees in the USA, they treat everyone better there, after all, it's a US company. All the fun, culture you read about is not happening in Barcelona, after all, you're in Spain and salaries suck! Ireland was much better for salaries and culture but hey we know why we got relocated.

Stranger things happening

Pros

So, VMware as a company can contribute to a lot of prestige, that's the main reason why you'll find most colleagues here or people outside trying to join. The office is currently really small, but we will soon move to a new building. You have drinks, coffee and tea for free. Many activities are done during the year. Callouts with incentives, good salary, gym, food card and other perks. The colleagues are nice, really nice. The trouble are some managers who think too highly of themselves.

Cons

Currently the environment is not nice at all. There are obvious things that are strange. Not everyone is treated the same way, from at least some managers you notice straight away who their favourites are, this is not cool as you also notice who they "don't" like, and are therefore treated unfairly. Unfortunately this happens in at least 2 or 3 teams, and no one dares to say anything. There's generally a lack of vision in the office, which is obvious as this still needs to roll and deploy. But even so, many will start looking for something else the moment 7 or 8 months are over. Remember, no one leaves the company, but everyone leaves the manager. We've seen already some performing colleagues being fired without any logic reason at all. This creates a cloud of doubt over the management's incapacity of growing a person, being good at conflict handling or neutral when taking a decision. What a shame.
