Pros

No college education required, can become a driver and make a decent amount of money. Co workers are humbled by the work and are friendly. Payday every week. Some supervisors are helpful and listen to the package handler. You can wear your ear buds while you work (just one). Building is clean and has AC , trailers have fans that blow air in them.

Cons

Heavy packages , trailers are hot inside ( even with the fan blowing) , inconsistent work schedule. Union dues and taxes . You become a driver based on seniority and if there are positions available in your building. In my opinion loaders and unloaders should receive more pay than small sorters.

Pros

Currently have the flexibility of working from home with "return to the office" based on personal comfort with that (but that is not the case for employees in other parts of the country). Customer interaction is generally positive, except for the instances where I'm held responsible for something completely out of my control.

Cons

The internal red tape and corporate gas lighting is a lot sometimes. The corporation is going through a "transformation" that has made folks wonder about their future at UPS, and question their loyalty over the years (jobs are being cut with little fanfare). The "transformation" also makes it clear that our real customers are stockholders, not shippers. As with many corporations, decisions are made by executives who don't have to use their own services and haven't had boots on the ground in years and are out of touch with the reality of the day-to-day of most of their employees. Internal mobility is limited, and employees who express interest in moving to other departments are sometimes "blacklisted" in their current department. Salaries in some departments are some of the lowest across the industry, which is supposed to be countered with other "perks" (like the management incentive program) but it often doesn't pan out that way.

Pros

Good benefits Casual Simple (but still hard) work Okay pay

Cons

People in management are more greedy than logical, have no control over their emotions, and treat people inhumanely (causing workers to quit/ not come into work, which causes staff shortage). Sexism and sexual harassment is rampant (among upper management and coworkers) and ignored/ laughed at when brought up. Will lie to new hires to manipulate them into working faster even when dangerous (and will blame them/ fire them if injured). Horrible working environment that makes the actual work (which is not that bad once you get used to it) more difficult than it has to be. You just basically need to watch out for yourself, stick with your fellow coworkers, and use your union reps when needed. And don't trust any supervisors - some are kind and chill, but are pressured/bullied by upper management to abuse their workers.
