Pros

Opportunity to learn and get experience. Company Has a great mission and a great foundation. Really difficult to get fired. Great people. Family atmosphere.

Cons

Engineers are glorified secretaries. Company has lost sight of mission over profits. Management is blind. Hard work gets you nowhere. Only way to get recognized is to be part of the 'boys club'. R&D Department has turned away from safety and into material analysis only. Difficulty to get fired has breed laziness. When someone does get fired it appears random. Principle Designated Engineers has fallen asleep at the wheel decades ago. Safety decisions are driven by the larger clients. Smaller clients are largely ignored. Nepotism is rampant.

Pros

UL has a great work/life balance. For the work/life balance, UL has decent pay & benefits. UL also has a number of opportunities for global travel & work experience.

Cons

UL has a very political culture without a lot of meritocracy. UL lacks a clear direction and has a weak leadership. At its core, UL still has a Non-profit mentality.

Pros

UL is growing in many directions. Management has plans for expansion, seems to be on track. Pay scale is fair. If you wish to travel the opportunity is there.

Cons

If you are looking for advancement be watchful, limited upside opportunity. Rapid growth has cause for management coordination issues. Priorities can be confusing. Too many side issues are not prioritized. The yearly reviews involve a forced ranking that at times make no sense. Allows management to manipulate results to their liking. Yearly reduction in staff is promoted. Moral is terrible amongst the rank and file. There is no trust of Management.
