Pros

Smart, great people. Quality, high impact work. Treated like an adult and they foster culture of flexibility, But it is expected that you work hard and get your job done as they should.

Cons

Lots of growing pains with some gaps in Senior leadership during important time of growth. Management team lacks leadership that is needed to help fuel drive and motivation in its employee's.

Thank you for your feedback. Like you, I am very proud to be part of the TripAdvisor team, having personally filled one of those “gaps” that you mention when I joined the organization in September, 2015 as the Chief People Officer. We’ve also recently hired a new Chief Financial Officer, Ernst Teunissen, and have continued to build our broader leadership capability with a number of recent VP-level hires. Our incredible growth has presented many new opportunities and challenges for our organization, including the need to continually build leadership capability at all levels of the organization. This is not only a priority of mine, but it is a focus that is shared by the entire management team. Thank you for your feedback and your contributions at TripAdvisor over the past 5+ years. If you have ideas as to how we can improve any areas of our business, I’d love to hear from you directly. Beth Grous Chief People Officer

Pros

Full Medical and dental, free lunch, 'summer Fridays'

Cons

Palpable stress caused by upper management not knowing product, not listening to their direct reports, sending 'flame mails' to a wide audience of people, making sexist and unprofessional remarks and being mostly uninvolved in everything except budget talks. Zero career development. You're just a 'head,' you're not a person.

I want to immediately apologize for any sexist or unprofessional remarks that you may have experienced while working here. TripAdvisor does not tolerate these type of remarks, and I ask that you share your specific concerns with your HR Business Partner or me as soon as possible, so that we may appropriately address them. We pride ourselves on having the world’s largest travel site and community, and for being a fast-moving, product driven company. We have programs in place to provide visibility to product development, but there is always room for improvement. We appreciate your feedback, as we are always open to suggestions on how to improve product communication, and would welcome the opportunity to hear from you directly. Thanks for remaining a dedicated employee to TripAdvisor over the past 3 years, even with the changes on your team. We truly value your contributions to the incredible growth we’ve experienced as an organization. We are a different company than we were 3 years ago, but we believe we’re a better company, and we’re excited to tackle the opportunities and challenges ahead. Beth Grous Chief People Officer

Pros

Directly building something people use is great

Cons

No career growth, I was in the same role 3 years after I was hired. "Speed wins" is used to justify sloppy work and never addressing the mountain of technical debt. New technologies, even those proven elsewhere in the industry, are resisted.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear you felt this was a great first work experience and you enjoyed working on our product. As with any successful company we have accumulated technical debt. Historically debt was not addressed in a timely manner, but that changed significantly back in the summer of 2015. Now teams and individuals are empowered to address debt throughout the organization. Also, It is reasonable to say that we did not strike a good balance in adopting new technologies; however using new technologies in a high volume environment requires a lot of consideration. That is also an area being rectified albeit at a slower pace than addressing our technical debt. We wish you the best of luck in your new position and thank you again for your feedback.
