Pros

You can get more experience and hours if you ask for them. You can be trained in all areas of the store and take up extra shifts when people call in sick. Working the fitting room is great during the holidays/when it's super busy. Makes the days go by incredibly fast.

Cons

If you work at more than one location, the rules and regulations can be different. Often the only way to find this out is do to your job as usual in the new location, and have someone become upset at you for doing something "wrong."

Retail Work is Retail Work

Pros

-Scheduling was flexible around my schooling -Granted some degree of independence while working

Cons

-Individual performance metrics aren't always interpreted by someone who knows anything about statistics/trends. -The bright red-and-white color scheme, and the ultra-peppy-smiley corporate atmosphere take their psychological toll -Positivity is sometimes insincere. Positive feedback you get on the Sales Floor doesn't necessarily manifest in a positive Yearly Review. -Regardless of company, retail work is not fun

Pros

Company values are strong. Team-leads really take time to create good morale amongst team members. Competitive pay and benefits. Flexible with hours and vacation. Opportunities to work in many departments. Training is thorough.

Cons

Not much room to move up in the company. This was my experience working at two Target locations. Some areas can be stressful especially when there are time constraints.
