Pros

Benefits are great. The officers and supervisors are very professional. It's a good stepping stone for younger people to get their feet wet and move on to bigger and better things within the federal government especially within DHS.

Cons

Micromanagement and favoritism by local senior leadership. Local senior leadership seems to always look for things that people are doing wrong than good. Very low employee morale. Salaries for TSA are not in line with other DHS organizations. TSA needs to pay their officers a better salary. Leave and shift bidding is a nightmare. Promotions are very hard to get. TSA will drive your morale into the ground.

Different airports are managed differently

Pros

Worked several airports. Some were fair, some were not. Upper level managers push their work to low level managers who push their work down to Supervisors.

Cons

Management is pressured to rate their employees low on performance reviews that lead to raises. My reviews of my employees were returned to me for re-working because they were too high. There should be an Officer-written blog to inform prospective transferees about local management so they can decide whether or not to transfer.
