Pros

Being a Federal Transportation Security Officer means you are serving your country. This job gives you the chance of give back to society.

Cons

Inflexible work schedules; officers, leads and supervisors back bite; officers are rude to passengers (even if passengers are rude, employees shouldn't be); managers talk too much about officer's personal business, each other's personal business and their bosses' personal business

Pros

The pros were great, detailed, extensive training and mentor programs. The exit interview is also easy to schedule. The schedules are odd, but after the first 90 days you can swap days or have other employees work your day instead of using up your personal leave time. I can't think of any other pros.

Cons

For anyone with a spouse brace yourselves for the major friction that comes with the hours and days a beginner will have to work. You will either be waking up at 1:30 AM and clocking in at 3:30 AM or you will be working all evening. There are no normal shift hours, not even for upper level positions. Also note you will work weekend days and holidays for at least the first year if you stay part-time. If you go full-time you are looking at three years until you can get one weekend day off on your schedule. If you are married with children this isn't the job for you. If you are a single parent don't even think about this job. Also note since the employee parking lot is no where near the airport automatically add 30 minutes to what you think your commute will be. The parking lot takes time and you have to wait for a shuttle bus to get to the actual airport.

Pros

Great salaries and benefits. The work is steady. Opportunities to transfer or temporarily work in other states and Islands. Can be a good stepping stone for younger people.

Cons

Repetitive work so it can be bad for your body. Unfortunately there are a lot of personnel in management positions not qualified. Not so easy to transfer to other branches of the Govt as one would think. Favoritism, nepotism.
