Pros

Great benefits, government job, matching retirement (tsp). If you want to enter the govt this is a great way.

Cons

This job has went so far down hill . At the airport i work at we are losing about 3 long term employees a month. People are taking major paycuts just to get away from this organization. We are over worked under employed and now they are changing things that you didn't realize they were allowed to change because its federal. All PT employees have to work 5 days 4 hours at 4 am to 8 am. No more or less that 20 hrs. The promotion process is unprofessional and about whos but you kiss. They make errors amd do not fix them. I am not a bigger employee. I absolutely adore my coworkers but we're tired. If you want to enter the government this is an easy way to.

Pros

The benefits of the federal government are hard to match. Agency matching 401K, pension, paid sick and annual leave, paid holidays, vision, dental, health.

Cons

The job itself is not difficult however it can be very stressful. It is fast pace, high stakes, and low reward. The passengers can be rude, ignorant, and entitled. The pay is inadequate considering the level of professionalism and commitment expected and the sheer number of policies, procedures, and scenarios your are expected to know. Each year your are tested on the basics of these procedures with your job hanging in the balance. If that weren't enough the procedures along with everything else in the airport environment is in a constant state of flux. This includes senior leadership and their vision for the agency. Communication is terrible. Morale is low. While they claim your are their most valued asset they seldom reflect that in their actions. Pay raises are insulting and are only given to the highest rated officers. Favoritism and mismanagement are rampant. Retaliation in the work place is common. All in all the agency is in a state of disarray. Then there is the negative media coverage, public outcry, lack of support in congress, and yearly furloughs come national budget time.
