Pros

you get healthcare but they only pay for some of it, the rest come out of your pocket

Cons

This is the worst job you can get in the federal government, Good luck trying to get a day off! Unless you have been there for a while, you will not have weekends off. They show you a salary range but never tell you that you will never get to the top the of range or how it is that you are supposed to move up in salary. In order to move up you really need to kiss some you know what. Even if you are perfect, you will only get a 2% raise at the end of the year... if you are lucky. Their attrition rate is horrible. More people quit or are fired than they can hire. They are always understaffed. When there is a government shutdown, they tell you to come into work even though you wont be getting paid. Makes sense, right!? I can go on for days as to how many problems they have.

TSO

Pros

Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits for part-time employees Build up Vacation and Sick leave at the start of hiring Stipend for clothing/uniforms

Cons

Non flexible hours - management not willing to work with employees in understanding what they need - equipment malfunctions - not all employees trained on all equipment and resources Office personnel have more chances to spend time with family than TSOs have. Furloughs every year where the TSOs have to work with out pay and office personnel get to sit at home, get paid with out having to take vacation leave (while also stating that if the TSO called out sick or was on scheduled leave they will get a Letter of Reprimand)
