Pros

I worked for Starbucks for 10 years, and in that time LOVED my job... up until 6 months ago. It was a company to have fun with while being inspired and proud about what you were serving. I loved the people I worked for and with, and was completely dedicated to the company. I was even 100% supportive of Howard's changes and knew he would change the company for the better. I had excellent benefits (health, vision, dental, stock, life ins., etc.) and was like a walking Starbucks representative.

Cons

If your boss want you gone, you're gone. Period. After never being in trouble for 10 years, I was on corrective action after corrective action for nit picking reasons that didn't really matter. Then laid off when a different store closed. Unless you plan on working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you won't stay on your manager's good side. Makes me very sad, because I had wanted to stay with Starbucks, but had no choice.

Pros

Starbucks has a strong corporate social responsibility message. Total compensation has been solid. They are attempting as a company to get back to the reasons that made them strong in the beginning.

Cons

For a company that began its growth as a company with a "soul", the economic downturn has caused them to lose that "soul". Decisions are made that appear to be a desperate reaction to both the economy and the competition.
