Pros

Lots of perks. Depending on the location, customers are generally nice. If you stay long enough, there are a lot of benefits including small scholarships.

Cons

As with any part-time job, very random schedules. Some customers are hard to please and can be a pain. Very rarely had to close one night then open the next morning.

Pros

good benefits, free drinks while you work, getting to communicate to the public.

Cons

the mentality has changed from being a fun to a hard sales driven atmosphere where people are scared for their jobs all the time. As manager you are on the floor as a barista for 36hrs a week. poor pay.

Pros

Great customers Friendly regulars Tips on top of hourly rate Flexible-ish scheduling Easy to learn job and very structured recipes Free lb of coffee or box of tea each week Satisfying making drinks for people Lots of customer service experience Good health/stock/401k/retirement benefits Fast-paced work environment Young/hip and/or sophisticated community

Cons

BAD Customers Long, neverending lines Worked like a mule Underpaid for the quality, professionalism and work expected of us Tips can be really low or really high sometimes, depending on the store, area, and customers More physical than you would imagine Long shifts drain you very quickly On your feet the entire time you're there Very limited/strict breaks Shift Supervisors are just barely a step above you and can take advantage of their authority easily Don't always get breaks that are scheduled They cut labor a lot which takes away from your scheduled hours Repeated Action Injury risks Schedules and hours can be very harsh
