Pros

I can only talk about the digital part of the business (though the editorial staff I worked with were good people too)... * Nice employer (treated well, not over worked, great facilities, line manager gave a f*ck about my happiness) * Other employees were nice. Nice relaxed atmosphere. No massive dickheads lording it over others. * Felt like my work made a difference. It's a big place, and you can probably get away with coasting for a while, but I feel like I was making a good contribution to the place * I learned a lot! Lots of training given and time to improve yourself * Great location - right next to Kings Cross * 10% time!!!!!! This was probably my favourite thing about working here. * Allowed to work from home. Very flexible working conditions. Was allowed to work from home for a week when my wife was out the country and I had to step in to look after kid. * Great place to specialise. If you want to be an expert backend or frontend dev, this place will let you do that

Cons

* Took a long time to work out what their future direction is (but recent reorg will work sort that out) * They are currently struggling to recruit juniors (hopefully this will be corrected too soon) * They really like specialists - full stack is a bit of a dirty word. I'm a generalist so never quite felt like I could operate in the way I wanted to. * No AWS :-( * Not sure what to do in the business after reaching Senior Software Developer? It's a big company, there are always going to be inefficiencies, but ultimately this is a good bunch of people who are passionate about science and doing digital seriously.
