Pros

Nice office with a lot of snacks, wellness days, permissive time off, WLB depending on the team, NOW stock has been good.

Cons

- Dysfunctional organization that is disconnected and delusional. - You will be working with either outdated or proprietary technologies. - What you learn here will mostly be useless elsewhere. - Convoluted code and the platform architecture is a nightmare. It does not follow any principle and it lacks consistency. Software components are tightly coupled and extremely fragile. A code change in one place can cause an unpredictable failure elsewhere. - Instead of addressing the root cause, underlying issues are often solved by adding more processes which lead to more busy work of pressing buttons and bureaucracy. - Mediocre management that plays politics and deflect responsibilities. Most of them are "managers" but aren't leaders, they don't motivate and command respect. Cracking a whip is the same as leadership. - Senior management does nothing to address the Pulse survey feedbacks. The same feedbacks are repeated year after year. It's getting old. - Remote work has been productive but now everyone is required to return to the office to the sake of "collaboration." - It is really difficult to stay motivated when you are not learning anything valuable besides bad practices and what NOT to do.

Pros

None that I remember, sadly.

Cons

I have over 15 years experience being an executive assistant, and this was the first time felt it was a bait and switch. I was hired to support 2 people, within less than a month of my starting. I was given 4 people to support all in different locations while still learning the company processes. This team didn’t need an executive assistant, they needed a personal assistant and travel agent. The expectations were never clearly defined, and when not met, I was let go. There was so much focus on the negative that nothing positive seemed to matter. In the space of five months there I received one positive note of feedback.

Pros

The company is on a tear in regards to market share, margins - all the indicators of a healthy, robust software business. The compensation and benefits are really good. There are a lot of pockets of good and not so good management, so YMMV. Our CEO is an absolutely rock star.

Cons

Two big ones... Firstly Politics. If you think about ServiceNow as the major cloud platform player it is, the culture is what you would expect. As a veteran of both start ups and tech bellweathers, the culture here matches the worst examples of political fiefdoms, where knowledge is treated as capital so skunkworks projects and political power plays abound. The second issue - the most successful people here are transparent rear-end kissers. In the choice between doing good and looking good, you have to have an understanding of what your manager thinks good is and emulate it. It is a constant source of bad decisions and groupthink. Some of us who focus on execution have terrible hours and poor work-life balance, while others hide and rest / vest. Lastly, immature processes abound - way too many for a company that is far beyond its startup roots, yet many of the same executives from those days are still there. Bill has his work cut out for him.
