Schlumberger forces were technology and people. Today it is more dividends and transformation (but transformation to ???) For software, we use outdated process: cowboy coding. Tester is a metier

Competitive salary, multinational, smart people, the software domain is developping. Some adventure can be had.

Cons

Oilfield is not sexy. Boom and bust, last wave saw 30% of the work force laid off. Projects can be long, you may never leave Houston if you start there. Eroding benefits, blamed on premature babies raising costs. Now we pay out of pocket. You can get stuck in Houston if not on a visa.
