Pros

vacation, 401K match and maternity/paternity leave are great

Cons

Upper management doesn’t trust employees and employees feel unheard by upper management. Covid-19 has ruined the company culture. The company forced people without medical exemptions to go back to the office in November of 2020 only to be forced to send people home due to a stay at home order put in place by Illinois. Mental health was not considered a medical exemption. They then forced everyone back to the office in the early summer of 2021 and took away all exemptions. Masks are not enforced and widely not used regardless of the HR policy’s in place. Overall, I feel unsafe at work. Work from home is only allowed one day per week if you live 10+ miles from the office. This policy is leading managers to try and bend the rules to keep their team members. Turn over is at an all time high and it seems that many people are simply waiting for bonus to pay before leaving.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are proud of the benefits you've shared and many more that we are committed to offering SCJ team members. We value the dedication of all SCJ people to work hard every day to help uphold the trust and goodwill we’ve earned from our consumers and communities for more than 130 years. Regarding returning to offices where local guidance has allowed, we have invested significant resources and have gone to great lengths in preparing our spaces for SCJ people to safely return to office. We have also offered additional benefits to help support SCJ people during these unique times, including childcare subsidies, testing, and vaccinations. We strongly believe SCJ people are able to achieve their best when they can collaborate and work together in person. We recognize this may not be the preference of some and appreciate that may be the case. But we are committed to maintaining our unique culture by attracting and retaining SCJ people who are aligned with our common values and purpose of working for a better world.

Pros

some lower level people are nice

Cons

I feel very unsafe working here. They treat COVID as a joke, but use the excuse that the situation is ever changing and that they’ve invested lots of money into the office to make a safe workspace. However the reality of it is that they did rent out an additional floor in the building to “spread out”, yet not a SINGLE employee sits on that floor. The floor is empty. We used to have town halls where an employee could anonymously ask questions, but when employees started asking about COVID workplace safety policies, upper management took away the anonymous option leading to employees being frightened of losing their jobs, so therefore no more COVID questions were being asked. In town halls where employees did have the courage to write in a question related to COVID, questions related to workplace safety and RTO were blatantly skipped. It was an on your honor system of not wearing a mask in the office if you were vaccinated. Now everyone has to wear a mask due to increasing rates, yet I have since heard of employees who were NOT vaccinated and not wearing masks. SCJ doesn’t seem to care. Not a family company culture at all. Only expect to get a respectable promotion if you kiss up to management. Otherwise, expect pennies. Morale is terribly low around the office. Not a fun place to work.

Pros

Benefits are good. renovated office building, nice cafeteria.

Cons

- Pay is not that great - work from home policy sucks, you only get to work from home 1 day a week and need to live 20 miles or more away. Stupid WFH policy, especially for having to commute to the Racine downtown location. Nobody lives in Racine, it's a sketchy city with too many bad neighborhoods. Why would I need to commute everyday to do a job I can do at home and be more efficient at it than doing it at the office?? - After COVID, all the talent left the company, and a huge number of the workforce is new to SCJ. Nobody sticks around for more than 2 years, everyone leaves because of the WFH policy. It gets really depressing when you work and see all these ppl leaving. - Onboarding is not smooth, and you just get left there to "figure it out" because the talents that were supposed to train you left the company. - the open concept office environment sucks. You can't focus doing your own work and it seems that everyone can see your monitor, making it hard to work on confidential work. Or if you decide to take a 5 minute break, it will seem that you are not working.
