Pros

The benefits and pay at SC Johnson are great, and there are awesome opportunities for career progression for those who are good at their jobs. You also get to work with household name brands that have recognition nearly across the board. The people who work for the company are also generally very friendly and passionate for what they do.

Cons

Training for new employees is astoundingly poor. For the top shelf talent that already knows what they are doing, this should not be an issue. However, for new graduates that are still learning skills involved in day-to-day responsibilities and how to navigate the corporate ladder, there is absolutely no way to learn besides trial and error. Also for what may be typical of most larger companies, SCJ is extremely hierarchical and slow. You will spend the majority of your time working only with the intent of seeking the right approvals from the right people, and pandering to leadership only to make yourself look good. This creates an environment where may individuals are solely focused on helping themselves or seeking to benefit from any interactions you may have with them. Furthermore, there is absolutely no future for employees whose management does not fight for them. Sadly, the company is also moving towards more of "dog eat dog world" type of company culture now that leadership has shifted priorities for where they want to take SCJ. What used to be a "Family Company" is now becoming just your normal P&G-esque bottom-line corporation.

It's just a job, not a career

Pros

They will invest in you to make you happy.

Cons

But the prospect of truly developing your career will never happen when the majority of senior positions are being recruited from the outside.

Thanks for your comments. We do want to invest in people. In fact, more training and development opportunities are on the way. We respect both folks who are new and those who've been at SCJ a long time - we're sorry you haven't felt that way.

Pros

Great co-workers Decent Brands Looks good on the resume

Cons

Not a family company any more- commitment to employees very low Brought in a new senior team with a global focus- stop spending money to drive sales in the US. The US commercialization team is underfunded yet still expected to deliver revenue to fund global growth. Think 3G. Morale in the US is the lowest I've seen in my career Extremely top down- think Frito-Lay. Churn and burn expectations on all sales and commercialization employees. No training for existing employees unless you are politically connected or new. The most sycophantic upper-middle management team I've ever seen. Minimal actual connection between results and advancement.

We’re sorry your experience at SCJ wasn’t positive. We agree the people and brands here are great, and are disappointed you didn’t feel there wasn’t training and funding to back them up – those are commitments we value. We review and consider all feedback posted here.
