So Inconsistent

Pros

Fence Lake, the Company Store and the Retirement policy.

Cons

Constant interruptions and noise in open concept buildings. Inconsistent WFH policy: Letting others still work from home while forcing others into the office. Management chaos - the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. No understanding of consumer wants so they force project work that costs the company tons of money for something that doesn’t sell. Huge turnover- no consistent teams as they cannot retain talent. Top heavy management- transformation tried to fix this but newly created roles brought those roles all back. Too many directors with no direct reports! Open roles are often hand picked leaving no opportunities for others. Many managers play favorites so it forces many to manage up.

Pros

All friendly, intelligent and hardworking people. Decent benefits and pay. I enjoy my job.

Cons

Biggest downfall is their WFH policy. They’re very, very old school.. and are going to start losing lots of talent as more company’s are offering full or partial remote jobs. If they would offer this option, I would never leave this company.

It’s great to hear you enjoy your job and the people you work with at SCJ! Thanks for sharing that perspective, as well as your thoughts on working from home. We believe SCJ is stronger as a team when we can work together in-person, but we appreciate the feedback and will consider it as we continuously evaluate our ways of working.

Pros

- Well-known, respected brands will look good on your resume - Better-than-most maternity leave policy

Cons

On-campus recruiting will tell you that they have addressed many of these issues, but people who still work at SCJ tell me that things have not changed: - Appallingly inappropriate behavior (sexism, verbal abuse, & gaslighting) by senior directors, directors, and managers towards associates is ignored/unaddressed by HR. - Women of color especially were marginalized and it is heartbreaking to see their voices fade. - No formal upward feedback mechanism in place means that there is no manager accountability. - Decision-making is completely hierarchical and very slow. - Your peers at other companies will advance quicker and have better opportunities. - Company can't make it up its mind about career-pathing: HR communicates new, conflicting messages every few months. - You will be regarded as a 2nd class employee unless you take a role at the Racine, Wisconsin HQ. (Expect that promotion in Chicago to go to a Racine employee you've never heard of.) - Healthcare plans are shockingly limited - all have super high deductibles - Forced to pay for facilities at Racine HQ that you will never use if you live in Chicago - No bonus until you reach manager-level and "Profit Sharing" amounts to about 2% of your salary - Technology is outdated and always broken - WFH policy is outdated and very inflexible - CEO who cozies up to Trump & Paul Ryan
