Pros

Most departments have a very realistic attitude about work vs. life. Medical, gym, pool, cafeterias all available on a beautifully manicured campus decorated with sculpture. Everyone has a private office and there is an ergonomics department that will go to great lengths to make sure your body is comfortable. Vacation is average, pay is average.

Cons

There is no real career path. Skillsets can be very odd. Older employees (20+ yr veterans) are routinely pushed out of the company due to lack of current skills. Newer hires come in with more current programming skills. There is no scenario in which you would be rewarded for extraordinary effort, or for that matter fired for being a slacker. Most immediate managers are excellent, middle managers are average, upper management is clueless.

Pros

Good benefits, great benefits if you are at Corporate HQ in Cary, NC. Nice place if you are in a lower to mid-level position, especially if you have little kids.

Cons

Minimal upward mobility due to gridlock at the top. Most of the key executives have been with SAS their entire careers, so they don't know the outside world very well, and cross-pollination of ideas from those coming in are quickly squashed, typically for political reasons. Company knows Analytics well, but falls way short of where they should be at understanding how to effectively run a business, both inside the company as well as with its clients. It's the Peter Principle in full effect. Additionally, they have a tendency to confuse their clients (whom they refer to and treat like customers) with too many disjointed points of contact, and broken down processes between functional silos. Disconnect between Sales goals and Professional Services goals are pronounced, and drive the wrong behaviors for everyone involved, typically resulting in something being oversold and under-delivered, then the finger pointing starts.

Pros

Benefits Offices - company culture that most individuals get their own office Cary extras are unsurpassed - gym, massages, barber, medical facilities Great if you need child care for 3 children or less, even better off campus in a regional office - on campus there is a waiting list

Cons

Processes are set up based on a small company- not driven to accomplish sales in a timely manner. No documented process, seems like everyone assumes all workers have been there 10 years and just "know how things work" Technology is focused on addressing the needs of a few key customers who seem to keep the company in business. Spaghetti code is the least of the challenges Cary let's the field over sell and under deliver because there is no honest discussion about gaps in capability or performance No real bench-marking- wonder why a company of this size and maturity doesn't provide this type of data? Salaries are not competitive, even for NC, forget anywhere else Federal leadership is exceedingly poor and there is no "leadership" involved - no strategy- only politics and personalities Very poor treatment of women - many inappropriate relationships between high level managers / executives and other staff across the company- really bad in Cary.
