Skills are not valued

Pros

1. Great benefits 2. Good work life balance 3. No micro management

Cons

1. Bad compensation, compared to the local market. 2. Bad HR policies. No real effort to retain skilled employees. 3. Lack of management appreciation. Management only focussed on the sprint deliverables, releases etc. No time for employee check-ins/appreciations/growth. 3. Retaining offer presented two days before the last day as HR didn’t have time to meet with the resigning employee sooner. Not that, it would have made any difference with my decision. 4. Technical skills undervalued and there by under-utilized. So the tech savvy employees runs the risk of losing those skills they have.

Pros

SAS has some great people and technology.

Cons

SAS lacks competitive commercial models for its technology which is still firmly based on on-premise tools/solutions. Management continue to dream about million dollar deals while the competition is acquiring their market share selling SaaS solutions at fractions of a cent. The annuity stream of software renewals is just irresistible to let go of for the owners of the business, the fact that customers get nothing for their money except the right to use the software is simply audacious. No value add and no updates. If you want some new features you'll need to buy new software. Cost cutting is hitting hard and the appointment of new management (if I can call it that) in Australia will most certainly lead to even more pain for SAS. Culture used to be awesome but that too is being driven out by the new management.

Company is falling behind the times

Pros

Great benefits, beautiful campus, work/life balance for a limited group

Cons

Employee skills are falling behind because there are so many internal software practices that are not marketable outside of the company. Employees are in for a rude awakening if they are laid off and need to find a job. It depends on the individual manager and department whether there is "work/life balance". Working from home is rare and frowned upon.
