Going nowhere, fast

Pros

Co-workers are wonderful, smart, and driven. Benefits are decent. There are snacks and coffee and so much over-ordering of catering that there is always food.

Cons

This is a perfect case of Emperor's New Clothes. The CEO is dead-set on trying to put lipstick on a pig and spends millions of dollars on over-the-top events and internal overly rehearsed rah-rah meetings when he should be focused on the actual products. Customers aren't stupid, you can't say you have integrated solutions when very few of the products even work together or even have the same GUI. Customers don't even know that they have multiple Rocket products installed because they look so different. Dying technologies and purposeless products. And over 100% senior management turnover (3 different General Counsels in 18 months, 2 CFOs, 2 HR VPs, CMO...). And as an employee, unless you are male and come in at a director level or above, don't fool yourself in thinking that you'll go anywhere in this organization.

Pros

WFH ability is nice, except for when new hires slack off and don't pick up the workload. Equipment that they give you is cool, until the laptops overheat. Then again, Rocket picks up IBM's Lenovo scraps. We don't get to travel much, so that's nice on not wasting time and energy that could be spent programming. Support personnel don't really understand what's going on in the code, so that gives you an edge up in gaining experience dealing with customer's, including teaching customers how to read a wiki.

Cons

They care more about inclusion and diversity than paying their employees their worth. Never take a promotion without a raise, they'll use the excuse of "title" vs what they're paying you. Also, never take your eyes off your own code, it can easily be squashed by someone else without a code review.

Constant Churn, No Growth

Pros

Nice people, health benefits and office perks are the three pros that are top of mind.

Cons

Products are old and outdated and the market keeps shrinking especially around IBM Z. Constant churn on the sales, marketing, finance, HR, etc. Engineers are the only important employees at Rocket. Otherwise you are nothing more than a commodity to the CEO.
