Pros

- Global company that has been fairly active over the downturn - Office locations are very good across the network of affiliates - Houston has a great office which is a competitive advantage - Frequent trips to Madrid - Opportunity to learn a second language and develop cross-culture skills

Cons

- You have to understand the corporate culture is very firmly rooted in Spain. Repsol is the only "game in town" in Spain so there is no pressure from other oil and gas companies to poach the employees. The turn over is nearly 0% in Spain. You should not read that as people are happy at the mother ship, they don't have any options. When this is combined with no one ever getting fired, you create a Union like environment where employees try to game the system and Managers take advantage of employees with no options. Repsol managers have been brought up in this system and know how that game is played and are good at it (they became managers). They are the least incentivized to change it regardless of the steady stream of initiatives that have a culture focus. The Spanish employees get a lot of benefits such as most of August off, generous number of holidays plus summer hours from June to Sept where you leave every day before lunch! The Spanish culture prioritizes family and off time so they put up with low pay in the trade off. You can't find that system anywhere else so people stay. - Extremely siloed - main focus of average employee is to obtain their goals for the year. These are rarely aligned across groups so you get extreme silos and a place that feels like people are working against you because they could care less about your goals or goals above their own. - Repsol has one operating system and will put Spanish employees in key roles both in operated and non operated assets as a way to promote the Repsol way. Training systems to teach the Repsol way to new employees is severely lacking so the system becomes predictable....expatriate more Spaniards to drive the model. - Majority of Spaniards are not good with English so you have a lot of meetings, side bar conversations and communications in Spanish, which alienates the non-Spanish speakers. The language barrier creates some crazy communication channels in the company with Spanairds largely sharing info with only Spanish speaking colleagues. - Managers put a significant weight on loyalty over talent and especially high value on if they have worked with a person in the past. - Repsol has the lowest score on building connections with other operators. Very insular thinking with external networking abysmal. - A very interesting aspect of the culture is that no one wants to admit they made mistakes or could have done something better. Ask an employee what are their weaknesses or conduct a Lesson learned session....crickets!

Pros

-Good 401k (6% match + 6% profit sharing). -Great office location in the Woodlands (for those that live there). -Great work-life balance (definitely work here if all you care about is collecting a paycheck). -Good young talent (for now). -A lot of activity (for exploration side only).

Cons

-As others have said, noncompetitive pay for non manager/higher up levels (who were hired from other companies since nobody who started at Repsol stays). -Non-existent career progression (whole "new model" was revealed early 2017 and quickly hushed because people starting figuring out it was just for show). -If you are not a native Spanish speaker, unfortunately you will miss a lot and this is not the place for you. (career progression now also depends on Spanish ability) -"Transparency" and "Respect", two of the company motto's are nonexistent, literally the most secretive and condescending company you could work for. -Difficult to have continuation of ideas/projects when technical staff is leaving (or looking to leave) every week, some of whom are key people. -Huge barrier between exploration and business unit, no cooperation. -Some technical staff are just quitting, without a a job to go to, showing that they would rather not have a job than work here. -P&O (HR) has all the control, leaving managers and team leaders unable to make any sort of personnel decisions. -Employee climate surveys are very bad, so much so that the company has quit showing the results. -Young professionals have received ridiculous "raises" the past 5 years, 1-2% increase in base pay (while cutting bonus by 5% gross pay) is NOT a raise. -Would be careful about accepting a management position here, the people below you are just waiting for when they can leave. -Company promotes based on your connections, if you do not report to someone in Madrid (or from) with some pull then good luck.

Pros

The pay is good for what it is

Cons

The culture rewards brown-nosing and the layoffs have resulted in a very negative workplace environment. I would stay away from this company.

Pros

I love the people I work with on a day to day basis. The benefits are good and continuing to improve such as the implementation of a teleworking policy. I enjoy my job and coming to work!

Cons

As many have said in other reviews, the pay is subpar for similar jobs in the Houston area. It is difficult to get ahead and advance your career if you are not Spanish (or a Spanish speaker). I tend to agree with the statement that Repsol is a Spanish company....not an international company. However, over my time at Repsol, I am slowly seeing changes occur that lead to more diversification of its management style across the globe. I remain optimist that changes will come!!

Pros

The basic necessities: computer, chair, desk.

Cons

Where do I start? 1) No employee development what so ever. Will not get training or proper development. Also, won't get any real experience since all assets are currently non-operated (sit and watch). 2) Legacy Talisman influence: the poor decision making that drove that company under still echoes since the N. America HQ now sits in Calgary. 3) No offices: 3/4 of the company sit in cubicles (you have to be with the company at least 5 yrs to get an office). 4) Under-qualified managers: In general, a lot of unqualified people working here. They either don't come from Oil & Gas backgrounds or don't have technical degrees, yet somehow they are managers and leads....5) The pay: base salary is low and you probably won't get a raise for several years, so you end up making a lot less than you would elsewhere. The company responds by saying they give 401k match and an additional match (safe-harbor contribution), when other companies give the same AND a reasonable salary AND stock options AND nice bonuses. At the end of the day, you pay low, you attract poor talent. The ones that leave are the "better" ones so you can imagine who is left....6) Bonuses: The year end bonus that you are entitled to won't be distributed until April or May! That is 4 months of interest the company is earning on EVERYONE'S bonus from the previous year!

Pros

- Location (Nice new building at the Woodlands). - Good 401K match. -Work-life balance.

Cons

Everything else. Some highlights: - VERY limited number of attractive projects. -Terrible pay, particularly for young professionals. “Revamped” salaries this year for young prof, nothing for seniors. Took more than 8 years to give anything you could call a raise. Still below market and not competitive. Most importantly, it took A LOT of people leaving for this to happen. Many are waiting to see what happens next year to see if their Repsol experience will come to an end. I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes back to the 0-2% salary increases that we had for the past 8 years…. - Repsol US works under the Spanish model. They believe that they are doing you a favor by keeping you in the company, because, you know, there are no more oil companies in Houston….. With the market picking up, I predict they will lose a lot more people this year. -Nonexistent Career Development. Hyped up a CD plan last year, nothing has nor will come out of it. - Preferential treatment for the following, in order: Spaniards, legacy Talisman, Spanish speakers and/or brown nosers (the call it "visibility"). Long story short, nepotism is rampant. You MUST know somebody to get anywhere. - NO REGARDS FOR GOOD WORK. You can be the best employee, doesn't matter to them. We are all the same, unless you know somebody. Hard to stay motivated when you see hard workers stay at the same level and the most incompetent people make it to the top (see advice to management on comment from 01/24/2018, this is the worst case but there are MANY others). - Most will leave the company when given a chance, for lower pay or no job at all. Everybody hates it here. Repsol knows but doesn’t care, it is strange. Especially now that the job market is picking up. - P&O (HR) controls everything even though they know little about what we do. If you confront them, they’ll just blame whoever is above them. Managers/leads/directors have little to no power. P&O only cares about the bottom line and not the employees. I could keep going, this is very therapeutic, but I digress.
