Went from good to toxic

Pros

- You can work on your own timezone with no expectation to be online at a certain time. - Flexibility to organize your work day depending on your situation, running errands, medical appointments and personal matters is not a problem.

Cons

During the last 3 years this company went from a cool fast growing startup, boasting allowing to work from anywhere, kindness as a value, interesting work, lots of agency to one of the worst places I have ever worked. - Extremely toxic leadership. This comes from the top, co-founders are rude, disrespectful and often create very stressful hostile work environment. They dress it up as a "performance culture" and let us know that if we do not like it - we can be easily replaced. - Career advancement is borderline impossible. The only way to get promoted is to have a manager and, more importantly, director above you who have a lot of sway to push you through. It is routinely observed that promotions are not merit based but nepotism based. Even if you direct manager wants to give you a good performance review, you can be demoted by leadership because they think too many people cannot perform well. This depresses the salary adjustments which do not even reach the level of inflation in most cases. - Benefits are very basic and not great. Do not believe what you see in job descriptions. Flexible time off means limited time off, it is still okay but it is not unlimited. "Work from anywhere" benefit is not exactly true, they do not like to hire in USA due to costs and if you want to move while employed to a more expensive region, they will not move you and you will have to quit the job. USA Health/Medical benefits are very bad and very expensive. - Silent layoffs. Company has been doing a lot of silent layoffs, firing people for reasons only known to them and then not addressing it at all. One day you wake up and your colleague is no longer there, with no explanation or message. It is very distressing and obscure, it has chilling effect on company culture where nobody is talking openly and everybody is talking in DMs or side chats. There is no trust between employees and leadership. It is hard to overstate how different this company is from what it was 3 years ago. From a fun, high velocity, high agency and free spirited environment to a corporate drone culture, check-in-check-out workday, leadership sharing fake motivational messages and sycophants celebrating it. I would choose any other company to work for.

Our new “CRO” has ruined the sales org. If you’re thinking of joining the Remote sales team, I highly advise you to look elsewhere. The commission structure has changed without notice several times leaving many reps super frustrated and without pay for large opps they’ve closed. Several of my reps will probably leave soon, including various managers whose feedback is not taken into consideration. Our “CRO” doesn’t seem to care and thinks he can just replace people. Not sure why our investors want to let a technical co-founder run the sales org. Both of our VPs can give recommendations and feedback to the “CRO”, but he doesn’t seem to care, and they don’t want to put their neck on the line. Morale is the lowest I’ve ever seen since I joined. Quarterly sales quotas are increased significantly without a clear rationale, leading to extreme pressure on reps without proper recognition or compensation. The lack of transparency in target setting results in unrealistic expectations, negatively impacts performance reviews and salary adjustments. Some of my reps haven't received a raise since joining a few years ago. Our “CRO”, Director of Global Sales Development, and many other “leaders” are extremely removed from the front lines and don’t take the time to see what my reps are actually struggling with, and what our SDR team is struggling with as well. How about spending a day or two on the front lines to see what is actually happening? Many of my reps tell me that their work is apologizing to clients all day, every day, when they are not the ones causing issues. Competitors are out-innovating and outpacing us in almost every area possible. We will continue to fall behind the competition this year until we are in a distant 3rd or 4th. To our CEO and investors, how long are you going to let this continue? Yes, you can always hire more sales managers and reps when people leave or are fired, but the ramp-up time and morale will suffer. Find a real "CRO" soon or get ready for a mass exodus over these next few months.

Leadership Is Sinking the Ship - Stay AWAY

1. The people below the manager level are genuinely great — talented, collaborative, and fun to work with. They're the ones keeping things running. 2. Remote work is supported, which provides flexibility (though not always respected in practice — more on that below).

Cons

I've been with this company long enough to witness its rapid decline, which began soon after an aggressive expansion phase. Below are the core issues that have made the work environment increasingly toxic: 1. Founders: Both founders exhibit extreme egotism and have a habit of publicly shaming employees. They frequently jump into different teams with random, often nonsensical, last-minute demands. While occasional urgency is part of any job, this has become a norm — and it piles on top of already high-priority work, overwhelming teams and destroying focus. 2. Leadership: This is, hands down, the most incompatible leadership team I’ve encountered in my career. No one challenges the founders' unreasonable requests. Leaders from different domains are misaligned, often pushing their own conflicting agendas without any coordination. There's no unified direction — just chaos. Teams are pulled in every direction (product, sales, customer success, founders’ whims), and no one at the top is willing to prioritize. Yet, it's always the teams that are blamed when things don’t get delivered. 3. Blame Culture: The company is driven by a top-down culture of blame. Leadership never takes responsibility for strategic failures. If you attempt to challenge or reason with them, you risk being fired or pushed out through subtle (or not-so-subtle) mistreatment. 4. Shifting Values: The company’s values change constantly. Currently, the only one that seems to matter is "Intensity". There is no care or empathy from management — just pressure and performance demands. 5. Talent Drain: Most of the good people have already left or are actively planning to. I’ve seen many great colleagues leave — some pushed out, others leaving voluntarily due to politics and the toxic culture. 6. No Clear Direction: There's no longer a clear product vision. The company chases large customers, building one-off solutions with no long-term strategy. Instead of scaling solutions properly, teams are forced to jump from one custom build to the next without fixing core issues — making it nearly impossible to build something sustainable. 7. Leadership Is Out of Touch: Executives seem completely disconnected from the day-to-day reality. They push unrealistic demands, assuming things are easy — without any understanding of how much work teams are juggling. Miscommunication is rampant, and the gap between what is asked for and what is delivered is often laughable or tragic. Despite having multiple products, the founder insists on "keeping it simple" — no documentation, no coordination — just fast delivery, which only deepens the chaos. 8. Nepotism: While some level of familiarity is normal in leadership, this company takes it to an extreme. Most leadership positions are filled from the founders' personal networks, creating a toxic echo chamber. These leaders have unspoken expectations not shared or documented, assuming everyone should just "get it." They forget that they’ve hired globally, and not everyone shares the same cultural mindset. If uniformity is what they want, they should stop claiming to value diversity. 9. Time Zone Issues: Though they claim to support "async" work, expect late-night or early-morning meetings if you're not in the favored time zones. Many leads and managers regularly work at unhealthy hours just to meet others' sync demands. Final Thoughts: If you’re considering joining this company — don't. And if you're already here and struggling, know that you're not alone. Many of us, across different departments, feel the same toxicity every day.
