Pros

Health benefits, free lunch and fruits

Cons

* Inexperienced managers promoted to general manager role who do not even know how to manage teams. * Lots of commotion and skirmishes creating toxic work place. * No clear goal and roadmap. * No vision what will be the project looks like in next 2 to 5 years. * Managers hell bent on holding control. * All projects are approved from Japan and have to work with Japan teams in night shifts without Overtime. * 3 Day office policy is killing work life balance. * No hires in USA office. * Spending time and money on unnecessary projects which no one uses after 6 months. * Poor quality services. * Lack of talent. * Senior engineers are blocked from building novel projects. * Management is too novice and afraid of changes. * Highly toxic work place. * Have to work with Japan team

Pros

- Good way to enter Japan without knowing Japanese - Good for psychopaths who like being called "Boss"

Cons

- Very old fashion top down management: Speaking English will help you more than being hard working or skilled. - Not a tech company: CEO was considering making a beer company before realizing big corps like Amazon were making a killing, so he shifted. - Low pay: CEO said it himself, Rakuten mostly hires inexperimented labour, because they are cheap. The hidden cost is a very poor engineering culture. - Asakai: Every Monday we read the CEO's bible and listen to his good words. Amen. I am surprised such company has not been classified as sect already. Really dodgy. - Return to Office policy: "We don't pay you enough to have decent apartment with enough space to work, so really the best is to come back to office" CEO in 2021 announcing return to office 7 days before it became effective.
