Pros

Nice location and reasonably good office. Free breakfast and lunch once in a week. Friendly crowd in general.

Cons

No clue what is the right thing to do there. Agile process they follow is a ruse. There is a big brother team in Tokyo which shadows all decision making. Very arrogant managers. Of course life is a party for them. Quality is a funny word. Everything is about quantity. Small team, low salary, overloaded with work.

Pros

Free lunch There is nothing more.

Cons

- Managers that don't know what they are doing. - Managers put the blame on others when they mess up - "Rakuten management style" (this is what you do if you don't know what you are doing, people working there even uses it) - No structured processes is used like +agile, scrum or XP - little to no code documentation. - No architectual design/design pattern when needed. - a lot of code has not been updated since 2000 - they hire guys to do "recovery" rather than fixing issues (this is what most people do)

Pros

I've worked at Rakuten Marketing for about 3 years and I stayed so long because of my coworkers. These people are some of the best in the industry - also really awesome people. The company also provides decent benefits and snacks every day. Drinkshare happy hour every Thursday.

Cons

Management is terrible. They do not care about the people actually doing the day-to-day hard work. The pay is well below market value. Don't expect to get a promotion or raise even when you deserve it because the company is trying to cut costs. Lower level employees are hourly at very low base salaries, but are eligible for overtime. Don't expect overtime without a fight.
