Pros

Free breakfast Wednesday, free lunch Fridays, lots of pubs and Leather Lane market.

Cons

Rakuten Marketing all company meetings (format of the meeting links the UK & US offices for a global call) at the start of each week are completely pointless. The audio just sounds like white noise from a radio and when the line from the phone was audible, it was all focused on US trends across media channels when we are clearly in the UK, they also going through all the new hires within the business and this lasts for hours! The overall theme of the company is the US, and the UK is consistently sidelined. Technical difficulties aside these meetings were largely demotivating and highly unaspiring to the start of the week. Office - It looks like a really bad third world call centre. It just not a suitable place to bring clients to. One client asked me why there was cables all over the floor!!! Management - They are practically invisible and only there to point fingers at you if something goes wrong. False promises - When I went for my initial interview for this role, I was promised a lot of scope for development and learning when in reality my role was extremely monotonous doing the same report each day and no sight of the promises made on job offer. At the start of my time here I was very excited to join a company that seemed to be experiencing strong rapid growth. But, I soon learnt that the CEO is hell bent on his own fame and glory (we were forced to purchase his book upon its release with promise of a staff party!). The frequent and aggressive company acquisitions only validate this and there is little surprise why this company cannot afford to pay a decent salary. Rakuten Marketing are simply not bothered about client service and are more interested on how to upsell additional products to clients rather than thinking about client growth strategies.

Pros

Very open minded people. (Depends on your team. If foreigners, you will have a great time. If traditional Japanese, you might have a hard time here) You can try new things and make your presence felt.

Cons

Average compensation. Middle level management is not that strong. CEO is visionary. Attrition rate of good developers is high.
