It's a good place to start your career. The pay is a little above average but you can earn more outside. Use it as a stepping stone to get out.

Cons

Your work mostly depends on the team you get. There is some flexibility but that mostly depends on the department you are in and your manager.

I was an Engineer at Rakuten. In development division, the atmosphere was a little bit conservative, so I was not able to introduce cool new technologies but instead of that learned a lot for making things durable and stable. I got some global opportunities like living in abroad, working with International people. Free Lunch is nice :)

Cons

Lot of talented engineers left from Rakuten..
