Pros

The paychecks clear on time.

Cons

Raytheon IIS has consistently gone downhill in my 10+ years with them, particularly since Lynn Dugal has taken the helm of the business unit. Programs are bid to win the contract, not to appropriately execute the contract. This requires the individual contributor to work an exorbant amount of "casual", or unpaid, overtime. A typical work week on the program I support is ~60 hours and weekend work is sometimes announced on Friday afternoon, as it was this last Easter weekend. Recently the profit sharing plan (a 3% bonus each year) was eliminated. When questioned about how she intended to retain quality personell, Ms. Dugal basically stated the "door is over there"... the top performers are taking her up on that.

Pros

Diverse projects. Every assignment was a little different. Fullerton office mechanical staff got to wear many hats. Lots of opportunities for travel to customers and suppliers, especially for Foreign Sales projects. Great work-life balance. Very flexible with hours. Pretty good cafeteria food too.

Cons

Horrible, dated document control practices enforced by entrenched bureaucrats as a means to keep their jobs. Lots of office politics. Senior faculty who did not report to anyone and often refused to cooperate with project teams

Pros

They are truly a large corporation with all of the characteristics that go along with that. Good processes in place, opportunities for advancement. The best part of Raytheon are the great people who work there. Good compensation, but raise percentages were declining in the last 6 years; mirroring the employment environment; also driven by the particular area and focus of the business area you're in.

Cons

Raytheon touts their people as their best and most important asset, but that doesn't match their decisions and actions. Still a strongly dominated male environment in spite of some new female leaders appointed. More challenging for women to be recognized as innovative contributors. Very political company which drives leadership behavior, benefiting the leaderships' careers. Indianapolis has different benefits than the other RTN companies. Recommendation -- is if you have a choice, work for another division; but still a company I would work for again.
