Pros

OK place to start an engineering career. Looks good on the resume. Steady paycheck and decent salary. 9/80 work week is wonderful.

Cons

Benefits declining rapidly with employees paying increased cost for what is left. OK for recent engineering grads or vets (revolving door well greased). Other disciplines need not apply. Defense industry is a specialty field. Moving to the larger commercial environment is challenging. Three "G's: Get in; Gain experience; Get out. Planning a long career at Raytheon requires an emergency fund for when they hire two replacement grads and you are "retired out" to the street.

Pros

The people are very friendly and helpful. This was a great first job.

Cons

There is some of the "Good Old Boy" network still in play. Men are more likely to be promoted over women. As a woman, I had to prove myself. More recently, layoffs have made Raytheon in North Texas an undesirable place to work.

Pros

Getting paid as much as I was for an intern was phenominal. I also did some real work instead of just grabbing peoples coffee all the time.

Cons

Employees' outlook can be depressing at times. I worked with many people who had had the same job, at the same desk, for 35 years and were totally ok with it.
