Squeezing until you break

Pros

If you like partying with access to infinite alcohol to numb you for the rest of the year this is your place

Cons

They will pressure you to work yourself out with very low recognition, and then will punish you when your mental health breaks. Most managers do not even have the ability to manage teams and the lack of internal communication sometimes borderlines inefficiency.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. We are sorry to hear that you felt pressured and unsupported, as our goal is for everyone at Perk to thrive in a healthy environment. We recently revamped our performance model to ensure our teams feel fairly recognized for their impact. We also take mental health very seriously and are continuously investing in leadership enablement to ensure our managers support their teams effectively. We would value the opportunity to hear more about your experience so we can continue to improve. If you are open to it, please reach out to our People team.

Pros

The travel product is solving a real market problem, and there are not so many strong competitors — easier to sell than in some more competitive industries. Travelperk parties are nice (if you like to party) but I would not have minded if that budget went to a personal / professional development fund for employees. Mental health platform is a great bonus. Health insurance is good. Barcelona office is very cool (other offices are not so cool). A lot of emphasis on AI tools and tools access.

Cons

Your success depends on the team you are in and who you are friends with. A lot of politics. Some commercial teams are not or were not the best place to be. Some leaders prioritise bringing people they know instead of getting to know existing people. In the past, there were cases when the power of making important decisions was given to people who were not qualified in the subject area. Questions have been raised but successfully ignored by leadership. Overall, the nepotism culture leads to a culture of bad managers being promoted while good people have to go. Many strong long-time employees left in the past year. While occasional refreshments can be great, they are never good if there is an obvious pattern of people leaving (or forced to leave). Internally, many things are a mess, and most employees are doing more work than they physically and mentally can, so there are a lot of mistakes being made and a lot of promises not being kept. Compensation growth is barely possible. Promotions are more common for some teams and less common for others.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed our product, the Barcelona office, and our focus on AI tools. It is also great that you found value in our mental health support and health insurance. We aim to build a meritocratic environment and provide clear growth paths, so we take your comments seriously. Feedback is essential as we work to improve and ensure we are supporting our long-term employees effectively. We also want to acknowledge your concerns about compensation. Staying competitive with the market is a priority, which is why we conduct annual reviews to benchmark salaries. We understand that expectations are evolving quickly, and we’re actively working to address these challenges. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and we wish you the best in your future endeavours.
