Pros

The people, for the most part, are very bright and are motivated to work in publishing because of their love of books. The authors and books are top drawer and hence one can have pride in the work. Generally, the ambiance is pleasant and there is sharing between certain departments. The health benefits are somewhat expensive but good; the contribution to the 401k is also good. The computers are excellent.

Cons

The hours are long and the pay is not great. Moving up is not easy in today's market. Since the Penguin Random House merger, the atmosphere is more corporate and geared towards the bottom line than before.

Pros

Great benefits, summer hours, great work-life balance. Hours are generally 9-5 except during the month close.

Cons

very slow paced environment, most employees and managers are not open to change, not much of a career path for a finance role, low pay (low bonus and low raise each year)

Great place to work. Great benefits.

Hard to move up. A lot of change has caused insecurity for the future.
