Pros

One of the most amazing places I've worked in my career. Everyone is bright and engaged. We're working on interesting projects and work with the best books and authors in the world. Company culture is phenomenal; very conducive to working parents (mother's room, flex time, Take Your Kids to Work Day, etc.); philanthropic (charity fundraisers, Red Cross donations for emergency relief, matching gifts), conscientious (paid time off for part time employees before mandated, LGBT and diversity committees who go out into the community and do good work); a recognition that we're people not just employees.

Cons

Change is challenging post merger as we move systems and merge departments; some people are fearful of their jobs. A bit of a have and have not mentality from uptown to downtown; the commute between the two offices is a pain.

Pros

A fantastic group of very driven people create a truly impressive collection of works. The staff is supportive of each other and you learn a ton while you are there. While the pay isn't great, the benefits and vacation days are good.

Cons

There is no such thing as "done with your work for the day." No one understands the boundary between work and life, and all of the editorial employees work non-stop. The company hires driven, smart people and then takes advantage of how driven they are by forcing more and more work on them. It is an unhealthy place to stay in for too long.
