Pros

Benefits Work Life Balance Work From Home Fridays Ping Pong Table Video Games There's just a feeling in the Boston office that we're a publishing company turning tech. So there are a lot of changes and I honestly feel like I have an impact even in such a global, large company. Everyone wants the same thing: to make the software better. To make education practices better. They also seem to take care of their own. Promoting from within versus hiring. This makes it so your manager actually knows the product they're in charge of.

Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy, especially because of all the fundamental changes occurring at Pearson in a global level. It's an old company that has its hands in a lot of places is redefining itself. Because of this, managers and higher ups don't exactly know where they stand and therefore leave.

Pros

-Work is challenging and engaging. -Get to work with modern technologies and APIs, rather than legacy stuff (even more so if you are a developer for the web team than the desktop team). -Company is willing to pay for training. -Health care, vacation time, and other benefits are better than any job I've ever worked at. -Coworkers are extremely friendly and get along great with everyone. -Management holds work/life balance in high regard and is happy to have you stick to 40 hrs/week if you don't want to work more.

Cons

-Although management respects work/life balance, coworkers often eat lunch at their desks and work more hours than required, meaning you have to stand your ground if you want to have a reasonable balance. -Management treats Agile development, specifically Scrum, as gospel. If you don't feel the same way about it, it comes across as kind cultish.

Pros

Love building products that support education, flexible hours/schedules, very bright, dedicated people.

Cons

Jobs are vanishing from the US. People all around Pearson need to pay attention as the reorg continues, high paying jobs will stay in UK (Empire) and all others off-shored to India or SL. Moral is very low, management is saying that certain areas are 'growing' but are not forthcoming as to 'which' jobs. I am being asked to build things that will be handed off-shore. Sad to see more US jobs leaving the continent while big tax breaks are given to these Corp Giants. Managers are looking out for themselves to hold on to their jobs and "training budgets". If you work for Pearson US in any division, be prepared at all times to find other employment. Some jobs will stay, but many will go away - don't fall for the illusion. If you are in SL or India - many things to come your way. US 'open' positions may just be temporary.
