At the end of the day...soulless

Pros

I met and worked with many great, intelligent people at Pearson. I also received two promotions in the three years that I worked for Pearson Education and felt that I was generally compensated fairly.

Cons

I ultimately left because the company was continually more motivated by profit than anything else. I started in college publishing because I was passionate and interested in education; however, with skyrocketing prices and questionable digital strategies, it was eventually impossible for me to invest so much time and energy for a company and products that ultimately conflicted with my values as a human being. In addition, there was classic sexism and brutal management problems in my particular group and office. It was apparent that if you were on the ride side of management you could get away with murder and the rest were left to suffer in their wake.

Pros

A great group of coworkers. The water cooler talk is always interesting. It's an interesting job with good benefits. Used to have good options for flex time-- not so much since the economy has gone downhill.

Cons

I would say things are a bit of a mess at Pearson, at least on the K-12 editorial side of things. Poor decision making, poor management of resources, and no long term vision.
