Pros

Company car Good benefits good entry level pay

Cons

Make sure you have atleast £800 to spend getting started with this company. Awful management, Constant scrutiny with little help to improve, do not bother applying to work for them unless you can cope with bullying from higher up and having a new manager every 2 weeks and being out of pocket for charging your forced electric vehicle

Pros

Interesting work and very varied day.

Cons

Low salary but thats par for the course in what are called unskilled jobs within the UK. It is impossible without being a manager in the UK to have a salary that allows you to pay all your bills and eat at the same time. Octopus must be aware of this as they provide free food so i suppose that is a bonus but as a vegetarian it is rare to find anything i want to eat. Also ageism is rife and the cutoff for most people seems to be 35 because older than that and you simply either don't exist or are rife for ridicule and sarcasm that they think you do not get because you are older.

Hello, Thanks for leaving your feedback. We really do appreciate you taking the time to write this. I’m sorry to hear you feel this way about the salary, we do regularly review our starting salary against the market to ensure we always remain competitive. Recently, we increased the starting salary in Leicester to align with this and will continue to check this quarterly. Additionally, we have a clear structure outlining how you can progress to the next pay level. I can see that you have been with us less than a year and the next steps for yourself would be achieving the grade (if not done so already) and then achieving points via Skills academy or superstar uplifts. Please reach out to your team leader or operations manager to discuss this further as this is personal to yourself. We’re deeply concerned to hear your comments about ageism. We strive to create a culture of inclusion and respect, where everyone feels valued—regardless of age, background, or experience level. If there are instances where this standard has not been upheld, we take that very seriously. We encourage anyone who has experienced or witnessed behaviour that does not align with our values to report it to management and we will look into it further from there. We really believe in making sure we’re doing the best by our customers and our employees. We do really pride ourselves on cultivating a welcoming and friendly environment for all, therefore it is really sad to hear this is not the case for yourself. As this situation is a bit more nuanced, I’d love the chance to discuss in more detail with a chance to help put things right or provide feedback to continue work towards having a friendly, inclusive environment for all. If you feel comfortable, please reach out to me on Slack or via email on fay.olner@octoenergy.com. Kind regards, Fay Olner, Head of Operations

Pros

Really wonderful people involved in the recruitment and assessment processes. I have done many interviews and a few assessment centres before, but can say hands-down that this was the most professional, best run, most pleasant experience. Octopus staff were very attentive, they were very respectful of my time and availability (a lot of the process is run asynchronously so I could complete it in my own time e.g. by recording video replies to their questions). The whole process is run remotely / virtually so I not only felt more comfortable answering questions and participating in the assessment, but also there was no travel time to/from an assessment centre so it was easier to fit it into my day. Since starting, the apprenticeship has been unbelievably good. Octopus is investing a lot of resources, time and training on us apprentices and I feel incredibly privileged to be part of this journey. I have worked in many organisations of all sizes and I can see why Octopus has been voted the top employer in the UK. This place is clearly different, people are proud to work here and the positive, can-do, customer-centric organsiational culture permeates every aspect of the job. These values are embodied, demonstrated, and lived by senior leadership - they are walking the talk. On wards and upwards!

Cons

A small bit of constructive feedback - there are some minor teething issues with the apprenticeship but this is to be expected with a brand new program that is moving so quickly. To Octopus' credit, staff and the organisation are constantly seeking feedback to improve and I am confident that anything I raise will be considered and fixed / improved as soon as is possible / practical.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts - I'm pleased to hear you're having a great time with us and that our missions align. Thanks for your understanding with the teething issues too! As you've mentioned, it's the first time we've ran this program so feedback like this only helps us improve. Best of luck with everything moving forward.
