Pros

Lunch money, £2.5k yearly bonus, good colleagues (only at below management level.

Cons

Terrible health and safety. Directly involved with asbestos and nobody said or asked a word about the incident until I handed in notice. ‘The above’ only care for themselves and their progression. Will be taking further once I’ve left. Poor management. They don’t really care, always cover themselves. Share information and don’t keep things confidential. Chaotic and no structure. Waste thousands on pointless things and don’t listen to suggestions, then try and make us work faster with lower quality of work to save money. No support and nobody to speak to if you need to. Isolated. Offer job opportunities when they’re not actually available. Get hopes up for progression and nothing actually happens. Again, no apology until I mentioned it in my resignation letter. Made Lead installers, plumbers and electricians redundant. Offering substantial sums of money to sign NDA’s. Didn’t give others the choice, just randomly picked. Expected to leave in company vehicle at 7am.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We value all employee insights and are committed to learning from them. I'm pleased to hear you appreciated the team environment at certain levels and the bonuses we offer. However, I am concerned to hear about the challenges you experienced regarding health and safety, management, communication, and career progression. Safety is our top priority, and we take any incidents involving hazardous materials as well as anything else that could impact the safety and wellbeing of our people extremely seriously. We continually review our health, safety and wellbeing procedures to ensure all employees are informed, trained, and supported. Your feedback highlights areas where we can perhaps do better in both proactive communication and follow-up, and we are committed to addressing these. Regarding management and support, we recognise the importance of structured processes, transparent communication, and accessible leadership. We are always reviewing everything we do so that we can continue to improve as I recognise we have areas where we can do better, So thank you for giving us this feedback We also take concerns around workplace organisation, development opportunities, and fair treatment seriously. I think we do a good job, but I also recognise we can always do things to improve - so again thank you for raising this to us. I regret that your experience did not meet your expectations and are grateful for the honest insights, which help us improve for current and future team members. Pros

The work can be impactful

Cons

There is rampant racism and sexism in all the different data groups in Octopus from the top down. They are more open to hiring POC women but mostly to sexually harass us which is ignored by leadership. All the teams in the different divisions are mostly just white tech bros. Ethnic minorities are generally seen as lesser and anything said by them is usually negatively misconstrued. There are no POC Senior leaders anywhere in any of the leadership for data at all department or group level. It is generally a white tech bro haven. There is a faux cult like positivity which is rewarded when one choses to ignore reality

Pros

Great office, lots of free food daily, no weekend work.

Cons

Way too much workload leading to most staff burning out, no parking at the office. Pay quite low comparative to similar job roles.

Thanks for your review, it's pleasing to see you value the office environment and some of the benefits of working here, such as full food and drink provisions for all our teams to help themselves to breakfast, lunch and snacks. In terms of workload, we are a fast paced and busy team and there are also peaks which can be demanding so will feel harder for team members at those points. We are fortunate that many of the team do share how they feel engaged by high intensity work but appreciate it's not for everyone. I trust you are having good conversations with your team leaders to help you here - we keep small team leader to team numbers to ensure there is lots of hands on support and development. Regarding pay, we feel we do pay fairly and benchmark to the employment market. I'm proud that we pay a base salary that is considerably higher than the national minimum wage and beyond that also have 4 levels of pay that people can aspire to earn in your role. If i can help with anything please do reach out to me directly. Ben Palmer Customer Operations Director
