Pros

Multiple offices. Allot of promotion opportunities if you are willing to relocate. Good opportorities for women.

Cons

There is a complete lack of detachment between upper management and the front line personnel . Goals are a series of moving targets. Very unrealistic expectations. Your performance is based on a myriad number of goals which though seemingly objective, allows for a very subjective assessment by management who is often faced with the daunting task of having to reward an entire office with very limited funds. The majority of the previous posters have very little direct customer contact. It is a whole different ball game with the majority of company employees who have to deal with customers directly. Pay raises do not keep up with the level of inflation. Some customer practices are deceptive but are encouraged by upper management. You are rewarded for keeping the Average claim dollar value below the industry average. This can sometimes only be done by manipulating repair estimates

Pros

Liberty promotes a good work/life balance and there seem to be be plenty of opportunities for advancement. Employees are encouraged to contribute to the bottom line of the company and are rewarded by bonuses based on business unit performance.

Cons

Management tends to not promote very quickly and alot of employees stay in jobs for longer than they should. There are also many employees who have been with the company for a long period of time and seem content to just coast through to retirement.

Pros

Liberty Mutual has great benefits, the medical coverage is good. You get 3 weeks of vacation the first year, plus 4 personal holidays. The hours you work are generally flexible, most departments (depending on the job) will allow you to come in whenever you want, as long as you work a full day. After a year with the company, they will pay for you to go to school for anything to get your bachelor's degree and something business related to get a masters. The people I work with are a great group of people, very friendly and fun to be around both inside and outside work.

Cons

Some of the downsides are getting into the company. For some people, it can be difficult to even get an interview unless you know someone with in the company who can recommend you, or unless you have something that significantly sets you apart from the crowd. Also, depending on the department, it can be that way with promotions as well. Sometimes promotions are done based on merit, and not posted as a new job, so you get promoted based on if management feels you are ready based on what they've seen you do. After a certain grade level, if you do not have a bachelor's degree, it can be very difficult to move up as well.
