Pros

I loved my job. I loved my supervisor. I loved my coworkers and the instruments I used and my department and the tests I ran. My team lead taught me something new every day. We were cheerful and had a good time.

Cons

With an ASCP cert and three years of high complexity testing experience and a BS working on an MS, I couldn't make enough money to grow. I'd like to buy a house, have savings. I'm frugal, but it's not enough.

Pros

Lots of vacation time right out of the gate for a new employee, good benefit options. Lots of overtime, which supplements the low pay. Not much pressure from management due to none being present in the lab itself. To be fair, I have heard that many of the problems I see are specific to Colorado and not to Labcorp nationwide.

Cons

The reference lab that I work in is notoriously mismanaged and has record rates of turnover in all departments, particularly Chemistry, Microbiology, and Accessioning. Labcorp has the lowest pay for comparable positions in the industry, and though I am scheduled for 40 hours/wk, I have worked 55+ hours/wk for the past several years. This overtime may be a plus for some, but just be aware that it is 100% mandatory and non-negotiable. I also would recommend avoiding having tests performed at Labcorp if at all possible due to lack of training and incorrect results often being pushed out to meet turnaround times for clients. Unfortunately, the low barrier of entry for work at Labcorp also means that the testing is performed by the least educated and and lowest paid staff that is available. The constant turnover also means that most people have not been on the job very long and are still learning with little to no management available.
