Pros

Extremely cheap medical/dental, long-term employees really know their stuff, starts higher than minimum wage, flexible with personal life, drug-free workplace, cheap employee lunch,

Cons

Hit or miss with Team Leads/Management knowing how to manage (correct "ethics"), raises really blow (nearly impossible to get high scores on evals no matter what you do), extremely political progression, jobs highly separated by race (cashiers/returns all Black, housekeeping/restaurant all Hispanic, sales mostly Asian), Communication/Interior design department think they run the store and other management for some reason.

Pros

IKEA has some of the best benefits out there. It's a privately owned company with European values, so employee benefits are top notch. For management postions, you start out with three weeks of vacation. Medical and dental are great, but the vision plan is a bit lacking. Hours are quite flexible, and the work environment can be stressful at times but for the most part it is good.

Cons

You truly have to be a self starter to work at IKEA, because the training and competence development is non-existent. The IKEA store is a high-volume, low cost business, so there is limited investment in staffing and resources. It's pretty much bare-bones, so you have to be willing to support other departments and do things outside of your job description. Upper management is out of touch with the department managers and hourly coworkers. They are focused strictly on bottom line results and do little to motivate employees. Instead they typically sit in meetings all day or in their office, with no clue as to what transpires out on the floor.
