Pros

friendly coworkers great hours around the holidays casual atmosphere generally fun place to work

Cons

IKEA tries to scrape by using as few employees as possible. Often times there aren't enough coworkers in the market hall, so customers often come to cashiers with questions that are outside of the realm of our expertise. The crowds can be monstrous in the summer before all the college kids head off to school. Also, don't expect to get a weekend off unless you fight tooth and nail for it.

Pros

You get to be YOU while working with a diverse group of co-workers. Even if you have different ideas, you'll learn to work with a team either to comfortably compromise or to lead the team in the direction that you want. There are also opportunities for horizontal career moves as well as vertical career moves within the company. The international network is exceptional.

Cons

Cons that can be deemed as Pros too : Flat hierarchical structure. It's a down to earth company, job title is not priority. So if you simply want to move up the ladder, there aren't many rungs! But that does not mean that there are limited opportunities. You need to know what you want, work for it and be determined not to give up.
