Good benefits and people

Pros

Comprehensive and reasonably priced benefits for a PT job. Culture is inclusive, diverse and open-minded. Coworkers are exceptional - many have college degrees and are overqualified for role which makes the work experience interesting.

Cons

It's retail so has the usual negatives. Decisions on pay are made at US corporate headquarters so any attempts to rectify local pay inequities simply don't happen. Re pay, it doesn't seem like anyone really looks at the whole picture for pay scales. Inquiries have been met with corporate rhetoric and any action takes years and then is too late and too little. The impression is that corporate compensation teams who analyze pay scales are more interested in justifying their current flawed model versus understanding true disparities in local markets and then identifying and implementing solutions.

Pros

Very job independent, don't need a manager to tell you what to do.

Cons

Not enough staffing, I coworker per department. Responsible for helping customers as well as other departments who need your product knowledge.

Not for me

Pros

Good benefits. Great co workers except the upper level managers/supervisors. Delicious food in the staff cafeteria.

Cons

Upper level managers are disengaged. They just walk around the store and look for things to tell you what to do and not to do. You and your co worker can't stay by the computer even if you are talking about work. You can't sit on the standing chair (workstation for cabinet planning) so why put it there? You must do things all the time and be on your toes. I worked for Ikea Europe for many years and I did not experience this. If you have worked in Ikea Europe wanting to work here then pls go somewhere else. You will be utterly disappointed in how different the culture of this Ikea store. I wanted to quit in two weeks but stayed for 3 mos (to give benefit of the doubt).
