Never let the owner give orders to your team directly
Pros
The pros of working there were that it was fun and challenging. I had the opportunity to work with a group of fun and energetic people. The staff canteen food was great. Not much to say about HR, as they only came in at a later stage.
Cons
Never let the owner give orders to your team directly. Three GMs changed in less than a year—that says a lot. The toxic, dictatorial culture shocked me when I first started, but I thought this kind of leadership had been eliminated by 2024. Obviously, I was wrong. The hotel owner sits inside the hotel and demands immediate action, even on your rest days. He once called me on my day off, insisting that a menu design be done now because he wanted it live immediately. The GM did nothing to stop this behavior. Sadly, the menu, which was rushed last minute, lasted less than three days before being scrapped for not being cost-effective. And that was just one example. Allowing the owner to reach out directly to the hotel team was a huge mistake. Getting conflicting directions from the GM, the owner, and Hyatt only worsened the situation. On my last day, when I thought I could finally catch my breath, I walked into the GM’s office to say goodbye—because that’s the professional thing to do. Instead of a farewell, I was told, "You should see a psychiatrist. I think you need one." At that moment, I knew I had no regrets about leaving.
