Pros

if you enjoy travelling, the team member travel plan is awesome. cheap rooms for you and friends/family. good insurance benefits, hilton pays a good portion of the premium. the vacation time is really great. you earn a set amount each pay period and the amount increases each year you are with the company. and the amount is considerably high. makes up for not being able to have federal holidays off like most companies

Cons

management is ineffective and inept at best. there really isnt any leadership. satisfying the guest is pounded into our heads, but when we go out of our way to help a guest, its never really noticed. the only people who ever recieve recognition are the ones at the front desk or who are constantly in "upper" managements eye sight. people are continually hired that cannot speak english, which makes it very difficult for guests and coworkers to communicate needs/questions to one another. if you want to stay at a hotel and get away with destroying a room or damaging tvs, toilets, walls etc without having to pay a dime, then this is the place to stay. guests are not held responsible for destroying items, and then they can complain that something was wrong in their room (items they destroyed) and get discounted rates blaming housekeeping and maintenance for their problem.

Pros

The software/technology is pretty impressive, especially if you take it upon yourself to really learn how to use it. There are many resources available if you know where to look, the challenge is figuring out where to look and how to apply it to your job. If you are the type of person who likes to move around every couple of years, Hilton affords you the ability to find a job at your next conquest due to the large network of "Hilton Family Hotels". The standardization of processes and technology also adds to that. You can pretty much pickup and begin working at another Hilton without much challenge. There's also the prestige that comes with working at Hilton, the company has an interesting legacy and history, you'll know that when you think about some of the flagship properties like The Waldorf=Astoria, Hilton Hawaiian Village and The Palmer House Hilton.

Cons

When working at such a large organization, it's easy to come across gaps in communication. I found that on the occasions corporate does in fact communicate relevant information, department heads at the property level do not pass it along to the rest of the staff, resulting in a sense of lack of direction. I'd like to know what direction the company is going in but no one communicates it until something goes terribly wrong. It is a very reactive environment. I can't speak for all of the properties but it seems like the one I work at has a lot of management lacking severely in management skills and leadership skills. There are a few exception of course. Additionally, I have run across more computer illiterate and technology illiterate folks than I ever though existed. Etiquette of all sorts (such as email, professional, phone) doesn't seem to be something Hilton Hotels is concerned with.

Pros

Opportunities to travel, cheap hotel rates (when available), nice office facilities, some good colleagues

Cons

Opportunities for career advancement seem to be given to those least deserving and junior employees do not in my experience receive the support and compensation they need to boost morale enough. There is a scheme for university leavers which gives them experience of the hotel industry, a respectable starting salary and training in various areas of the business however this seems to be done at the expense of existing junior employees and often the trainees are given projects to work on which overlap and in certain cases obstruct the work of others.
