Pros

Money is much better than I earned before, but not competitive with the oil companies. Benefits are good, and there is decent opportunity for growth. All in all the business culture is professional, and the technology and equipment reliability have come a long way.

Cons

Personnel are typically controlled at the regional level, so your boss will try to hang onto you if you are good. Many good employees are not able to be transferred or promoted because their local manager wants to hang onto them for selfish reasons.

Pros

Halliburton offers many different options, and a varied amount of jobs. Very open for you to move where you want to go in the world. Field training is very good.

Cons

Communication isn't always the best. Management structure is very confusing. Too much wasted money. too much to do and not enough people to do it.

Pros

Outside prestige. Name recognition. Focus on client service. Halli is serious about providing quality oilfield services and using fascinating technologies and equipment. You can make more money than most of your fellow engineering graduates.

Cons

But notice I said "more" money, not "better" money. The only reason you make more money is that a field engineer can expect to work 90 hours per week indefinitely. The best ones burn out within three years. I lasted 2.5. Do not plan to be rewarded--even for making miracles happen. Surrender your dignity. Most engineers at HES hate their job and their boss because the expectations are unreasonable by design. Employees just stay because they are addicted to the paycheck and tell themselves "one more week and I'm gone, just one more week." Multiple divorces are the norm as are addictions to pornography. Halli doesn't care what kind of damaged person they mint because they don't plan on keeping them.
