Pros

Benefits with Halliburton are great. One would be hard pressed to find better benefits. I've heard several doctors and insurance agents comment about how good the coverage is. The finance benefits (stock options, 401k) are outstanding. Vacation time is hard to beat as well.

Cons

It seems like all Halliburton is concerned with is growing as fast as possible with little regard to anything else other than making sure policy is followed. I was a part of a smaller company that was bought out 3 years ago. Our integration with Halliburton has been very poor, which makes day to day tasks more difficult and more complicated. Quite a few people who have been with Halliburton a long time have commented on how poorly Halliburton integrated us into the company. Halliburton didn't take the time to do it right. They may have a great structure for service and sales, but the facility I work at is a rental company. It doesn't take a degree in business to know that you can't run a rental company like a service and sales company. Also, we constantly stay understaffed and underpaid. Most people at the facility I work at are responsible for the work of 2 or 3. Halliburton only sees that we make "x" amound of dollars, therefore we only need "x" number of people. It's understandale to a point from a business perspective, but too often it makes it impossible to get everything done without working until Midnight. In short, Halliburton does not know what it takes to make our facility operate efficiently. It also doesn't help when your product manager wants to keep doing things the old way and won't let go of old systems. That means that 3+ different systems have to be updated when in reality only 1 or 2 need to be updated.

Pros

Great benefits, the people on my crew were a pleasure to work with, bosses were fair, and they paid for me to take a variety of courses and certifications including my class 1 driver's license. They were willing to teach someone with no oilfield experience, great place to start. They were also very understanding and family oriented. No grief when family emergencies came up.

Cons

Wages and bonuses were lower when compared to other companies in the industry. Not as much opportunity to advance as I would've liked. Lots of work away from home, but that's a given in the oil & gas industry.
