Decent place to work if you need stable income, but sometimes feels like a Dilbert cartoon.

Pros

Good benefits, San Diego is a great city to live in, Websense is a relatively stable company that should remain strong for a long time.

Cons

Some of the middle management has been less than exemplary and resulted in poor decisions, extra work, and increased stress for everybody. The main office is quite boring in the Dilbert type of way - no cafeteria, relaxation rooms, or other fun ways to de-stress.

A great place to land if you are former McAfee employee.

Pros

None. The place is ready to fold. Web filtering is so passe and no one is likely to pay the premium it requires to buy the company.

Cons

Be prepared for a lot of infighting and political backstabbing from the influx of McAfee people. The culture was stodgy but conservative, but all that went out the window the moment they hired Gene Hodges. McAfee must be using Websense as a dumping ground for all the non-performers, because they hired a bunch from there who brought in "what's in it for me regardless of the cost to the company", which pretty much killed any company culture.

Pros

The company is filled with talented technical people, especially in the area of security. The talent level in the Labs is truly exceptional. Everybody has something to add. As an added bonus, it's an international company, so you get to work with people in different countries.

Cons

The energy level in the San Diego office is low. The workforce is generally older so even though the aggregate level of experience is great, there's less camaraderie between team members.
