Pros

The benefits are outstanding for this job. You have dental, vision, medical, 401K, sick time, PTO, and discounts on shipping. The pay rate in Silicon Valley area is $20.50, which is undoubtedly great pay especially for a part time employee and you get paid weekly. This job is highly independent which is a plus for individuals like myself who do not want to see managers and other employees for more than an hour a day if possible. You get to have portable music players in your truck when doing your route and you decide how to do your route according to best time. Overall there are a lot of positives for this position.

Cons

The only tools you have to begin your workday is your badge to clock in. After that you have to struggle to find scanners, printers, and trucks to begin your route. This is stressful as a part time employee because you don't know if you'll be able to begin your work on time or be an hour behind and rush through your entire route because the full time employees won't give up keys to their truck or they take forever to get back to the building so you can't use their scanners and printers. Once you get these tools, the batteries may be low so it may die on you mid route. AND/OR the truck will be low on gas so you have to go fill it up when you're already behind. AND/OR The truck will be filthy because the full time person 80% of the time will never clean it. There's an overwhelming sense of a dead end job unless you plan to move up the ranks to management which can take years unless you are willing to relocate far. Even though you do not see management or other workers often throughout the day, they still find ways to be nit picky of irrelevant things and tend to stress you out even when you're not around. I've only been an employee for less than a year and I can't wait to find a job to get me out of this position because there is no sense of pride in coming to work everyday to pickup and deliver packages. Being treated like a child and having to ask for permission everyday to use equipment that belongs to the company and have people tell you no because of whatever excuse they want is not appropriate for me. When I go to work I want all of my tools ready for me to succeed. Just imagine yourself in an office position and having to come into work everyday and have to ask permission to use someone's keyboard and mouse. Then wait until someone is done with the computer screen so you can use that just so you can begin work an hour later. Oh and yes there will be stains and sticky residue everywhere because the main user never cleans it.

Pros

Brand - everyone knows FedEx. Cumbersome tools and camping home internet reimbursement at $40. Spreadsheets and fire drills run by Managers who have been promoted beyond their intelligence level.

Cons

Pay you just enough to make you question your desire to leave. No one gets rich at FedEx. Not alot of individual contributor advancement opportunities as people are sitting in current positions until retirement
