Pros

I work for a fantastic contractor. Time off is never really an issue. Compared with other terminals, pay is good at $1.40 a stop. My co-workers (other drivers) are great.

Cons

There is minimal chance for advancement for a contractor/subcontractor into becoming an actual employee of FedEx Ground. Terrible senior management, I've been working at FedEx Ground for 8 years and I've had 4 senior managers. Two of them were great, the other two were disasters on nearly every front (terrible communication skills, lack of people skills, poor leadership, terrible morale, etc). The hours are ridiculous. On average I work around 10-11 hours a day. There is zero chance for a life when the holidays roll around, six days a week, 12-14 hours a day (think Thanksgiving until mid-January). There is a crazy level of distrust for management from the drivers point of view. Its a very "cover your butt" environment. All of the responsibility lies with the driver. FedEx Ground is supposed to be a "team environment" between contractors and management and its a very one sided relationship. When FedEx screws up, "we" are a team. When a drivers screws up, they will come after you with everything they've got.
